The Life of Neil Armstrong
John F .Kennedy had committed the U.S. to a goal to be the first country to walk the moon, but there was one man who accomplished that goal even
though he had a lot of hurdles to jump. Racing against Russia to be able to be the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong was born on August
5th 1930, and throughout 82 years he gave girls and boys a chance to dream. As a child, Armstrong had a fixation with flying, his father took him to
go see him ride on airplanes and ever since he was hooked. At age 16 he processed his ideas in getting his student pilot’s licenses before he
knew how to drive, he certainly was not your ordinary teenager. Soon after Armstrong didn’t stop there to chase his dreams in becoming an astronaut,
he attended Purdue University with a scholarship from the U.S Navy. In 1949 Armstrong sadly had to put his studies on hold, when had to serve in the
Korean War. He served as a pilot in the Navy. In 1952 Armstrong left his studies and went back to college. Armstrong did not only have accomplishments in just
war and in preceding his dreams of being a pilot; he became a part of the Advisory Aeronautics. The current name now is NASA. Before he became Neil
Armstrong; the first man to walk on the moon, he was a test pilot, flying planes that go up to 4,000 miles per hour. Armstrong did not devote his whole time to
getting to his dreams; he got married to Janet Sharon on January 28th 1956. Just a year a later Armstrong and his wife added the first addition to
their family with the birth of their son Eric and soon after had a daughter Karen, who died of brain tumor. In 1962, Armstrong added his last family member
to his family, a son named Mark. They all packed their bags and left to Texas where Armstrong joined the astronaut program. After leaving NASA, he
became a professor for Aerospace engineering and stayed for eight years and soon after he served as a chairman for computing technologies for ten years. Still
serving in his profession Armstrong was a served as a vice chairman of the presidential commission on the challenger accident. In 1986 were they looked at
different mishaps with explosions of space shuttles .In 1994 sadly Armstrong and his wife decided to call it quits after being married for 38 years. Soon after
his divorce, Armstrong remarried in 1999 to Carol Knight. The newlyweds packed their bags and moved to California where Armstrong was a part of an
experimental testing for the National Advisory committee of Aeronautics; Bill Dana said “He had a mind that absorbed like a sponge and a memory that
remembered them like a photograph”. After Armstrong left NASA, he stayed very quit and cautious not to give himself a bad reputation, but he was still
committed to telling people about his adventure to space. In 2007 he was dedicated the new Neil Armstrong hall of engineering, he did not
like the spotlight and he tried to stay out of the press. Armstrong’s first wife Shannon made a statement saying“Armstrong felt bad that he was the only one
getting credit for walking on the moon, when there were ten thousand people helping out.” She later stated the “he lived a very interesting life; he tried a
Washing ton desk job and did not have too much apparition for the job. Some of dedications Armstrong gotten were in his old town in Wapakoneta where they named a museum after Armstrong called Mr. Armstrong. Even though Armstrong was known to the public eye he could not stand it. A couple of years ago Armstrong came out when President Obama made a stamen about withdrawing funds for NASA; last year Armstrong debated with the house of committee to continue funds for NASA. Later last year Armstrong became very sick due to cardiovascular procedures and went under surgery called bypass heart surgery. His recovery was going well when he died suddenly on August 28th 2012. Armstrong is still remembered to this day for being the first man to travel on the moon, and his legacy will continue to live on even after his sudden death.
